What can I do about spam? Print E-mail

You need to install a spam filter.  There are many programs available at various costs and some are more effective than others.  For current advice on which one to use, try PC Pro magazine.  Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton and Grisoft AVG are some of the common brands.  Steganos Internet Security suite has received top reviews, especially for its price.

Another recommended approach is to use a program such as MailWasher which filters emails before you open your email program.

You should also consider which ISP (Internet Service Provider) you use.  Some offer spam filtering at source before your emails are sent on to your PC.  As common with all these programs, the danger of an ISP spam filter is that it can remove good along with bad emails.

Never open spam as this confirms your email address to the sender and you may unleash a virus - delete without opening.  Most spam filters work alongside virus scan software.
